Impact of Tourism
A research study organized by the Ohio Department of Development’s Tourism Division shows the impact of tourism in Lake County for 2007 resulted in a 3.3 percent increase over 2006’s, at $568,751,047. 2005’s figures were $546,272,348 and 2004’s were $489.6 million.
“Visitor spending and employment figures are essential factors to consider when evaluating the importance of travel and tourism to Lake County’s economy,” said Robert T. Ulas, executive director of the Lake County Visitors Bureau.
Lake County:
- Tourism employment generated 6,266 jobs, $96,998,763 in direct wages and $16,822,475 in local taxes
Statewide:
- Tourism contributed more than $2.5 billion in combined state and local taxes
- Visitor spending of $25 billion generated $38 billion in sales for Ohio businesses
- More than 454,000 jobs were sustained by visitors to Ohio last year with total income of $10.4 billion
