Ready for some exercise? Lake County, Ohio, features premier golf at nearly 30 public and private courses. The Quail Hollow Country Club offers a $6 million, 18-hole Weiskopf-Morrish course ranked in the top 10 of “Best New Upscale Courses” by Golf Digest Magazine. Quail Hollow also sports the original Devlin, Von Hagge 18-hole course, nestled in 700 acres of wooded countryside. About 42,000 rounds of golf are played there yearly.

Lake Metroparks’ Pine Ridge Country Club’s 60-bunker course challenged Arnold Palmer when he competed there in the ’50s. Pine Ridge exemplifies premier public golf and meeting facilities. The clubhouse has also undergone an extensive renovation project, restoring its original grandeur.

The Reserve at Thunderhill, once ranked the No. 1 public golf course in Northeast Ohio, has completed $3 million in renovations including a new clubhouse in the countryside of Madison. Upstairs in the clubhouse is Sammy’s Steakhouse, where some of the best steaks in Lake County, Ohio, are served.

Little Mountain Country Club in Concord Township, designed by noted golf architects Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, is open to the public. Manakiki Golf Course, another former private, elegant country club, is now open to the public in Willoughby Hills. Bobick’s, Ohio’s largest golf pro shop and practice center in Willoughby, has a driving range, golf lessons, practice greens and more, convenient to all nearby courses.

Winter won’t leave you lacking for things to do. With the amount of snow Lake County receives each year, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, sled riding, snow-shoeing and hiking through snow on miles of trails in the park system are all possibilities.

Open year-round, the indoor ice skating complex at Mentor Civic Arena is the coolest spot around! With two regulation-size ice rinks, a studio rink, locker rooms and a snack bar, the Civic Arena provides something for everyone who enjoys the sport.
