There is always something to do in Lake County. Attend Mentor Lagoon's Tall Ship Festival in Mentor, the PerchFest in Fairport Harbor and the national speed boat race in Eastlake, and there’s no time to be bored.
Other events include the Lake County Historical Society's Little Mountain Folk Festival which has attracted 10,000 visitors and 140 vendors for 20 years.
The annual Vintage Ohio wine festival, held annually at Lake Metroparks Farmpark, has been selected by USA Today wine and food writer Jerry Shrive as one of the top five wine and food events in the nation for five years in a row. The festival attracts 25,000 visitors every year.
The Lake County PerchFest™, an event unique to Lake County, is a Lake Erie yellow fish fry festival promoting the highly desired yellow perch. Music, a karaoke contest, a fishing contest and more are all part of this fun event.
The 9/11 America Remembers Memorial has a remnant from each crash site. Steel beams, stone and light fixtures from the World Trade Center, a piece of the Pentagon building and turf from the fields of Shanksville, Pa., have been solemnly exhibited in a permanent, impressively designed, outdoor display alongside the Boulevard of 500 Flags in Eastlake.
Lake County’s Wine Country has been compared to California’s Sonoma Valley featuring national award-winning wineries. In all, about 14 wineries are bunched together in the vineyard region within a few mile radius of the lake.
Wine is always available, but harvest time could be the best time to visit when fresh-picked grapes and abundant fresh-squeezed juice are available for purchase. During harvest, some vineyards allow visitors to pick their own Concord and Catawba grapes. |
